Launching a strategic project with Tata Steel UK: CLECIM confirms its leadership in pickling lines
On April 24 in Savigneux (42), CLECIM SAS officially launched a major project to supply a new-generation pickling line for the Tata Steel UK site in Port Talbot.
This key milestone took place in the presence of top management from Tata Steel UK, ABB, and the CLECIM teams. It was a significant occasion, highlighted by the visit of Tata Steel UK CEO Rajesh Nair, who came to meet the teams involved in this impressive industrial venture.
This collaboration is part of a shared ambition: to strengthen the European steel industry while supporting the energy transition. Through this project, CLECIM confirms its position as a leader in the pickling line market and provides its client with the latest technological innovations in digitalization, energy savings, and acid consumption reduction, in partnership with ABB.
“Excellent collaboration during this start-up phase between our proud and motivated teams, united by this common goal. This project will allow us to equip Tata Steel UK with the most advanced technologies from CLECIM and ABB.”

The result of close cooperation between the technical and commercial teams of both companies, the chosen svolution combines performance, reliability, and sustainability, while meeting budgetary requirements. With internationally recognized expertise in the design and manufacture of pickling lines, CLECIM has guided Tata Steel UK in its technical choices to ensure high-quality “green” steel production.
We are very proud to contribute to the decarbonization of steel production in the United Kingdom, alongside our partner ABB.
A meaningful project that reflects CLECIM’s commitment to a more sustainable and innovative steel industry.

Industrial engineering at the service of excellence-driven projects
A tailor-made solution for NAVAL Group, Cherbourg site
CLECIM SAS takes on a major challenge at the heart of the strategic naval defense sector.
Context and challenges
As part of a drive to diversify its activities, CLECIM SAS was approached by NAVAL Group – Cherbourg site – to address a complex issue related to forming large-scale steel plates intended for submarine manufacturing.
The challenge: to facilitate operators’ work on a 12,000-ton press by replacing a fixed die with a mechanized die capable of rotating 360°, controlled by the operator before the stamping phase of the forming process.
The constraints were numerous:
- Interface and footprint identical to the existing tool,
- No impact on the current forming process,
- Strict compliance with existing safety standards,
- Occasional but critical use (two 3-month campaigns every 5 years),
- Ultra-responsive maintenance in case of incident,
- Integration of degraded operating modes to ensure process availability is never compromised.
The client faced increased operator risks, extended manufacturing lead times, and critical production interruptions.
Our response: a co-developed, robust, and ergonomic solution
CLECIM SAS assembled a dedicated and agile project team, workingdirectly with end users to design a fully customized solution.
A perfect illustration of our expertise, this mechanized die:
- Meets existing space and interface constraints without modification.
- Integrates an assisted rotation system, safely operable by a single operator.
- Improves productivity while addressing process and ergonomic issues raised by operators.
- Offers modularity with degraded modes, ensuring production continuity even in the event of failure.
- Is simple, robust, and compliant with standards, despite being integrated into a press dating back to 1989.
- Was validated by APAVE, both in the factory and on the client’s site.
The entire system was designed, manufactured, tested, and
comissioned in less than 6 months — from contract signing to
operator training.
Client results and benefits
- Early delivery, including trvaining
- Full compliance with client expectations and regulations
- Time savings in the process: no more need to extract the plate to adjust the shape
- A rewarding technical and human collaboration, built on trust
- A secure, confidential solution, developed and manufactured entirely in-house at CLECIM
